Richard Lewis is an English singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who lives in Paris. His first album, Postcard, is a delicate and sweet tribute to the French capital while keeping its roots on the other side of the Channel.
Often melancholic and similar in a way to Yann Tiersen's early albums, Lewis' music is an intimate and understated affair flirting with chanson réaliste, a music style that grew out of the cafés-concerts and cabarets of the Montmartre district of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It is also influenced by more contemporary acts such as Tindersticks and David Sylvian.
For this 7ème Ciel concert, Lewis (vocals and guitar) was accompanied by Chloe Dunn (violin) and Aude Petras (accordion). It was a truly enchanting moment.
