''Mostly it is loss which teaches us about the worth of things.'' Arnaud Sponar, aka Goodbye Ivan, makes Arthur Schopenhauer's famous quote his own.
Sponar started his musical endeavours at an early age as a drummer in post-punk and grunge bands. As a young adult, he learnt to play the piano and the guitar. He also turned his interest to sound processing and experimental music.
The K Syndrome is Goodbye Ivan's debut album. Recorded in Switzerland, Germany and the U.S., it doesn't sound like anything he's been involved in before.
Indeed, it is a subtle and slow unfolding record with glimpses in Sponar's newly found appeal in gentle sounds, field recordings and electronica.
It is charming and disquieting in equal measures. It is the work of a young multi-instrumentalist who's already breaking boundaries.
Deleted on CD, The K Syndrome is available now as a digital download.
