Recorded in six different countries (Switzerland, Germany, France, Iceland, Russia and the U.S.) and featuring four singers, Intervals could have been a disastrous venture. As it is, the album is a very cohesive and remarkable recording.
Goodbye Ivan is Arnaud Sponar, a Switzerland-based French composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Sponar has lived in numerous countries before settling down in Geneva. These diverse geographic environments have had a considerable influence on his songwriting, especially on Intervals, his second album.
Goodbye Ivan's music has previously been described as ''a blend bound to inspire both tears and the smashing of furniture''. The same could be said about Intervals. It is immensely cinematic and evocative.
As ever, Sponar plays all the instruments except the glass and the ebow on the strings of a broken piano on "Anxiolytics (The Visit)" which are played by Frédéric Merk from 17F.
"На Прощание" is written by Russian poet Alexander Filyuta and sung by Alina Simone. Simon Huw Jones (And Also The Trees), French singer-songwriter Alexandre Varlet and Alexander Craker provide the lyrics and vocals on their respective track.
Deleted on CD, Intervals is available now as a digital download.
